Getting *targeted* traffic to your website is the first step - but capitalizing on that traffic and turning them into repeat visitors (and clients or customers) is the REAL key to success in your e-business!

Attracting highly-targeted visitors to your website

Forget QUANTITY and go for QUALITY - Focus on putting your website in front of the people that are *specifically* looking for what you offer. How and where you promote your website will determine what type of visitors you attract. Two great places to find your target market are through the major search engines and topic-related discussion groups:

- Search Engine Marketing, done right, will result in extremely targeted website visitors: they specifically searched for YOUR topic, chose YOUR link and clicked through to YOUR web page. You now have the full attention of someone who is ready and willing to learn more, buy now or sign up!

- Discussion Groups, Forums and Message Boards are also a great place to find potential clients and form initial relationships. Set up a signature file that clearly says who you are and what you do. When people read your posts, and like what you have to say, you have their attention... and this is when you want to make sure that they know that you publish a newsletter! Make it easy by giving them a subscribe link. Again, you’ve got a captive and targeted audience in this case.

Converting highly-targeted visitors into responsive subscribers

Design your 'landing page' (the specific web page on your site where you send targeted traffic) so that you immediately capture the attention of your visitor. Simply put: fill a need, provide specific information, or offer a solution.

--Side Note-- Be sure to remove any distractions that might keep your visitor from taking advantage of your offer. Focus on your main objective for each page individually, and lead your visitors from one step to the next in an order which takes them strategically through your website. --

Immediately after you capture their attention on your landing page, present a compelling option for them to subscribe to your newsletter or ezine for even more information.

They are focused, interested and ready to take action at this point - DO NOT disappoint them by 'letting them go' the minute you receive their email address.

Two things should happen when your visitor subscribes: They are taken to a confirmation page, and they receive a confirmation email. You have the attention of your subscriber at this point - a captive audience - and this is your opportunity to introduce them to the next area of your website.

Subscribers or Followers?

Now that you have gained the trust and respect from your visitors, and converted them into subscribers, take the steps to build on this relationship. Each time you sit down to correspond with your mailing list, remind yourself of the promises that you made and the benefits that you offered when they originally subscribed. Stay focused on your main objective, and continue to provide the information that they need and want as it applies to your field of expertise.

Let your own personal character shine through in your writing. Establish your identity as a professional and as a person as well. Encourage your subscribers to correspond with you, to ask questions or offer their feedback. A personal response to these messages will go a long way in turning 'subscribers' into 'followers'.

Keeping THEIR best interest in mind in everything that you do, will ensure success for both them and for YOU.
