Anyone publishing their newsletter by RSS?

Postby Dustie » Tue Mar 20, 2007 4:11 am

Hi

I recently read Lynn's great article entitled RSS Marketing ( http://www.selfstartersweeklytips.com/rss-marketing.htm ) and was wondering if anyone has implemented this, as it is certainly a way to reach a lot of people.

I have an email newsletter that people can sign up for on my site and it is then managed by GetResponse from there on. (This is a double optin). In my autoresponder I can choose the option to send a broadcast by RSS.

What I am trying to find out is if there is another way to send out the newsletter by RSS, or am I being too optimistic here.

I am not that experienced technically so really have no idea what is involved and I may be misunderstanding the whole thing about sending newsletters by RSS.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
Dustie

Hi Dustie,

I actually publish the SSWT Newsletter in RSS format, as well as plain text emails. I use Aweber, which I understand is similar to GetResponse - it allows me to publish any emails to an RSS feed by checking a box within my account. Here is the link to the SSWT feed, if you'd like to check it out:

 http://www.aweber.com/z/rss/?sswt

Obviously that page will take you to raw code, you would want to add that feed to your Feed Reader to view it properly.

On the flip side, I also turn my RSS Feeds into Email Newsletters using Aweber's Feed Broadcaster option. You can see the subscribe form on my blog at www.clicknewz.com - it takes my posts and turns them into a newsletter, and then sends it out at regular intervals (all automated).

The great thing about having a feed is that you can then pull that into web pages, or allow other people to do so, which means you can "syndicate your content" across the web on various related websites. It makes it all very easy and automated.

Hi Lynn

Thanks so much for your response.

I don't think I am understanding the basics of this whole thing!!! Even if your newsletter is going out by RSS is it only going to those that subscribed either on your blog or site? i.e. those that have opted in?

I have 2 urls from GetResponse, but I actually do not know what to do with them i.e.

http://www.getresponse.com/rss/cyns-home-biz
and
http://www.getresponse.com/archive/cyns-home-biz

both these feeds contain only information that I put on my blog, they don't contain my email newsletter.

I am very confused!!!!!

Those two links are your RSS Feed and your HTML Archive - simply two different archives/formats of your content. You might have multiple 'lists' set up in your account like I do at Aweber. One for my blog, one for my SSWT newsletter, one for each autoresponder I have set up, etc. Each one of those will have their own two links for archives. IF you chose to publish them in RSS format (checked that box when you composed the emails).

I'm not sure if I am helping or confusing you more. You might want to look at their FAQ to get a better understanding of how it works with GR.

Thanks Lynn

I'll do some more research back at GR.

Cheers for now

Keep me posted ;)

Once you get that figured out, we can dig into some ways to use/promote your RSS feed.
