Your Subject Lines (Post Titles)

Postby Lynn Terry » Tue May 02, 2006 9:46 pm

I just wanted to let you know upfront that I MAY be changing your subject lines, or your post titles, here at the SSWT Forum. The reason for this is simple: to make the forum keyword rich and search engine friendly - and also to help members who are scanning the forum to find posts that might potentially interest them.

Subject lines like "I have a question" or "What do you think of this?" are entirely too general for both 'scanners' AND search engines.

How does it benefit YOU if the forum is attracting more traffic from the major search engines? Simple: you get more exposure to the links in your Signature! Not to mention you will get more responses to your question or topic ;-)

Always try to put some thought into your Post Titles so that they make sense and relate to the topic of your post. I know that many members already do this, but there are a lot of new people on the forum that dont realize how helpful it is.

Either way, dont be shocked if you find that your Post Title has been edited :D

How can anyone complain about that?

I wish all Forum Owners would take that kind of interest.

Thanks

I agree. I'm not big on search engines nor an avid marketer of the search engines, but I think that's a very smart step in improving your search engine rankings. Way to go, Lynn. I'm behind you on this.

I appreciate your support on this! Thank you :D

I've actually put quite a bit into optimizing this forum from the start. To give you an idea of where we are currently:

Over 28,000 unique visits in April 2006.

The forum is the #1 entry page for the entire site

Google, Yahoo & MSN are all three in the Top 10 list of Referrers. Yahoo and Google account for almost 92% of 'search traffic' sending over 10,000 clicks in April 2006.

Last month I spent an additional $50 for extra bandwidth during a "deep crawl" of the forum by Google's bots :D

Pageviews for last month totalled 186,796

Kevin, you'll get a kick out of this one: SSWT is currently #2 on Yahoo for "morethantraffic scam" and #8 for "morethantraffic" as well as various other phrases relating to that thread - bringing in several hundred new visitors last month.

:D

Hey Lynn,

That sounds great. I'm glad to have started a topic that could bring you some traffic, lol. It actually brought a little bit to my forum as well. I kept thinking my Alexa ranking would lose it's momentum and start going back up again... but it just keeps getting lower and lower. Oh well, it will serve me well since I'm revamping my main site now. I hope to finish in the next couple of days. I gotta go update my blog now... it's been a while.

A classic example of how the Post Titles can benefit everyone involved ;)

I'm a huge fan of traffic-sharing!
