Web Rings

I have read that web rings are not good means at all for SEO. Google refers to them as link farms, and they frown on link farms. 
The best way to increase organic traffic is trading links through similiar sites with decent page ranking, submit your site to directories, such as DMOZ, write articles and distribute them to other sites, and article directories.
