Why these drops...I read somewhere that the main reason for the drop is if you have text link ads on your site (text link ads other than Google's) the PR has dropped...Is that true? Or is it only one of the reasons...

My site only had a pr of zero even before this update so I guess I have nothing to worry about (Atleast for now)....

I don't think anyone knows the true reason why things happened as they did..

My main site dropped from a PR4 to a PR3. Then on Saturday, it further dropped to a PR2. :?:

Two other big site of mine went from a PR4 to a PR3, and I had fully expected both sites to land between a PR5 and PR6 given the number of quality backlinks they'd picked up.

30+ new sites that previously had no PR got PR2s.

A couple of neglected older sites dropped to PR1.

Talk about a miserable update!

I posted this on another board that had multiple thread running at the same time (a wee silly), and figured I'd share...

Why sweat over things that no one but Google has control over. Sure it's "important" in certain aspects, but certainly not worth more time or energy then a quick glance now and then.

Just do what you do best. Follow the rules as best as possible, keep up a bit with those that actually seem to know a thing or 2...problogger, Andy Beard among a few others, and watch it bounce with glee.
----------------------

I have 2 Blogs running thus far. One's been live for 10 days, the other for 2 days.

I don't have PR on either.

I do have email subscribers, feed subscribers, and regular viewers on both.

Should I worry about when my PR will go up, or just keep blogging?

Lots of big name blogs and websites saw a drop in PR with this latest update. I'm sure there are a number of reasons for it. One of the theories is selling links and I agree that probably has something to do with it but not the only reason.

Many other sites saw gains so who really knows.

I saw gains on some of my sites and blogs and drops on others.

I think with each year Google is making it harder and harder to achieve a high PR. I remember last year a lot of sites dropped too. Now even further this year.

Overall it really doesn't matter. PR means very little anyway. Just keep adding quality content and getting quality inbound links, that's all that really matters.

Traffic is what counts, not some number on a toolbar. If you have the same or better traffic with a lower PR then nothing has really changed.

Google has finally crawled for page rank on the 25th night and I did benefit to a great extent. My pr for a couple of websites did increase .One had a pr of 3 which increased to 4 and one which didn't have a pr moved over to 2.Google had to do this as it faced severe criticism from all possible places about not crawling efficiently this particular year for PR updates compared to last year.So people who launched their websites this year or sometimes earlier are set to benefit as the next crawl will possibly be for backlinks followed by a combo crawl for PR and backlinks. Here is the link that explains all.
