$7 Secrets Review

Postby theuniek1 » Fri Mar 16, 2007 4:54 pm

The $7 craze has been out for a while, but I wanted to hold off on my review until I'd actually had an opportunity to use it for myself. If you haven't already heard about it, Jonathan Leger released a short ebook some time ago called $7 Secrets. The premise of the ebook was for marketers to create and release short reports priced at $7 (or a with a low price point).

What I loved about the ebook was the structure and writing style. Jonathan has a way of laying out the words that makes it easy to breeze through in a single sitting without skimming. It's one of the few ebooks that I actually read word for word -- I even skim the very short ebooks.

Now that it's been out a while, you can probably figure out the entire $7 secrets method from doing simple searches online. If you don't want to go through all of that, let me break it down for you:

  • Find a niche
  • Create an info-product. Keep it short (which is an idea I love).
  • Sell it for $7 or a relatively small price-point.
  • Recruit affililiates by giving them 100% commissions.
  • Make back-end profits from affiliate links in the info product, upsells, and future marketing from the list you build.
  • Rinse and repeat.

This method, in theory, doesn't seem difficult, however it's also easy for a marketer to forget that she actually needs to write a report, market it, and get affiliates to help promote it. (Jonathan realized this and released the Write That Report ebook). If you're not shy about writing short reports (i.e. under 40 pages, double-spaced), and have no problem communicating with other webmasters within your niche, then you can certainly turn this into a lucrative venture.

One thing I cannot stand, however, is all the $7 reports/products that don't even live up to the price point as a result of this. Of course, I can't fault Jonathan -- each marketer is responsible for herself. That said, if you do get the $7 Secrets ebook and decide to work on a $7 product, please, please, please make sure that it's well-written, edited, and actually worth the $7 people are shelling out. (I know, that was a wild tangent. LOL)

My first short report (released under a pen name) has done especially well - more so than I expected - however, it took about a month for me to actually write the report. This was due more to my lack of time and focus, coupled with my desire to make it an awesome report so that my affiliates would be proud to promote it and my customers would be glad they bought it, than anything else.

In my opinion, the ebook can definitely spark some creative ideas. Plus, the bonus scripts he includes for the affiliate program and order management definitely makes the $7 Secrets ebook worth the price tag.

~ Teli

P.S. If you want to get more bang for your buck, get the Write That Report ebook because it comes with a free copy of $7 secrets as an unadvertised bonus. :)

UPDATE: As promised, I've started my $7 Secrets case study. It will outline what I did from start to finish with my first $7 report; though I won't reveal the niche, I'll be sharing my results as we go along.

There is also a large degree of flexibility in this system. For instance, I wrote http://GetYoursFree.com/shortcut and sell it for only $3 without all the One Time Offer hoopla or even a squeeze page. All of those features are optional and the script works just fine without them.

I have set up a few websites for others using that script and they felt the same way.

And where would this "first short report" be Ms. Telli?

LOL, Regina.

It's not internet marketing related and it's written under a pen name in a niche market - therefore...my lips are zippered. :)

But, I'm actually working on a write up for my blog on the results which details the process of writing it, finding affiliates, and various ways of marketing it afterwards.

Hi all.... My first visit (and first post ) in your wonderful forum! I had to post here 1st because I believe Telis review of $7 Secrets was very, very good and right on the money!

Jonathans report is very easy to read (I didn't find myself drifting off in distraction). He got to the point, stayed on point, and wrapped it up. Simple, no non-sense. However, the power of his product is those scripts. They are so felxible and very easy to use...and IF you have issues, Jonathan has a forum set up with round the clock support.

Personally, I'm very impressed.

Enjoyed your $7 Secrets review, Teli

Postby JourneymanPro » Sat Mar 31, 2007 12:15 pm

Like PotPie Queen, I enjoyed your review of $7 Secrets.

One of the reasons I like the product is because it can be used in applications beyond IM. Over the next few months we're going to release some infoproducts that target consumers outside of IM.

It's possible to pack a lot of value into a $7 product and watch it grow virally. One of the great things about a market economy is that the market itself will dictate the winners and losers.

People who use the $7 Secrets method and focus on quality will do much better over time than people who just throw something against the wall and hope it will sell because the price is so low.

Very much enjoyed your take.

Jonathan has since written a second report, which is a follow-up to $7 Secrets... and also launched a site to showcase successful $7 products. All of them are on the 100% commission model like the original report. I have posted my review, and some thoughts on this 'phenomenon' at ClickNewz for those interested:

Your thoughts are welcomed there of course!

Hi Lynn,

I saw your review yesterday and I must say it is nice!

I agree with you on the Write That Report product. There are so many people who have zero clue how to write a report (I know I was once that way) and this product helps tremendously.

The $7 secrets report as a bonus (I purchased it when it first launched) is surely icing on the cake :)

Blessings,
All the best,

Hello all. I have both of the reports and am getting started with my first report. I just received an offer from Jimmy D. Brown and his "Small Reports Fortune" book. I know many of you have heard of him and if any have purchased this book, is it good? More than Jonathan's books?

Yes, I have Jimmy D. Brown's material(s). Actually, he's my favorite IM guy when it comes to info products.

IMO, Jimmy's www.SmallReportsFortunes.com is better because it provides a LOT more information. He talks about how to choose a market, gives some examples of what markets to choose from, how to write high demand content, how to create the sales letter, how to price it, etc. It's approx. 100 pages+ audio, etc.

The sales page is good too, isn't it? All in all, I prefer his style of teaching... non-hype and straight to the point. He tells you what to do, it's up to the reader whether or not they apply the strategies.

I like Jon's reports too...

I'd like to hear other comments as well. Congratulations on writing your first report. :D

Thanks Regina,

I'll probably end up getting this. I know Jimmy's stuff is good, I've been reading him for a few years.
