Just to be contrary, I'll vote "a complete waste of time." Prediction: This too shall pass.

Dunno. Maybe it's just me. I don't get the passion for zipping a few characters about nothing much back and forth.

But, clearly MANY people do enjoy this kind of online activity, no question about that. To each their own of course.

Somebody wake me up and tell me when the fad gets down to the point where NO thinking or typing of any kind is involved, and all that's necessary is hitting the submit button.

When we get to that point, I'll write a perl script to auto hit the submit button a million times a day, and my popularity will soar!

Or something.... :-)

I didnt see the power of Twitter myself, until I started using it. And even then it took me a few weeks to really get a feel for it - and for the potential there. I've made some incredibly powerful connections and its proven to be more profitable than I ever expected. Twitter is also my #1 traffic referrer for new visitors to my blog... ;)

Thanks Lynn, will look forward to your ongoing reports.

I thought of our college age niece last night, who is constantly texting/phoning back and forth with her friends. It seems older people don't do this so much?

Perhaps there's a generational factor involved here, just as some of my old boomer friends are just now getting in to the swing of email, and may never make a website or blog.

Something I've wondered about blogs, and now Twitter. What percent of time do folks spend reading writing their own blog/twitter, versus reading other people's blogs/twitters? Most of the discussion about both seems to revolve more around how our blog benefits us, than it does how other people's blogs benefit us.

Dunno. Just wondering out loud. Trying to understand if folks are really reading each other's tweets, and if so, why?

I must admit "tweets" is a really great word. Tipping my hat to whoever invented that one.

Though personally I prefer the moniker "honks" in regards to my own typings. Perhaps I'll start the Fowl Network, where people goose each other? I'll have to honk about this on one of my sites.

Thanks for the education Lynn!

LOL good one.

I actually use Twitter to scout out new resources & content to share, and to read myself too. Twitter is full of great conversations about each others content too - feedback, additions, brainstorming, etc. So once you get involved and do the same, you'll see how powerful a tool it becomes.

I read tweets daily, and of course receive replies to mine, and many of my Twitter friends comment on my blog (and me theirs). So I'm not sure where you're coming up with your thoughts on it, but its certainly not been the case for me.

Also, please join my NING group at http://www.drsallywitt.ning.com. I had a pretty large group on yahoo, and closed it down with an invitation to move to the ning group, but only a handful did.

There are a wide variety of subgroups, with all kinds of interests. Please help me at least with some new members! If you want to post and get involved, even better!!

Thank you,

Sally

I too originally saw Twitter as a complete waste of time, but I have learned that its value is found in who you follow. I choose to follow those who post tweet-worthy content. Twitter gets me notices on webinars, news and such much faster than even email.

I've gotten some awesome content via Twitter and made some good business connections. The short tweets are just enough to give me info I need, without being too wordy. I really like Twitter. Feel free to follow me. :)
