Hi, Kevin,

After a while, you'll start seeing the social networking power behind Twitter.

Follow people who have your same interests. Usually, when you follow them, they, in turn will follow you. When they follow you, you should follow them.

Followers are able to see who is following who and they may decide to follow you. Your following will grow pretty quick.

Post about what you're doing, working on, what you like, don't like, issues, whatever.

There are some good free Twitter ebooks for ideas and info.

Have fun! It's pretty addicting.

Also, if you use Firefox, download the addon, Twitterbar. It allows you to Twitter from your address bar. Very handy.

Regards,

Tony

Hi Kevin,

One way you got people to follow you was to post your Twitter profile in this forum. It works.

Act on your dream!

Wow, Kevin! You've already got 51 followers with only 3 tweets. Not bad. I got into Twitter before knowing about the marketing-networking benefits. I listen to lots of tech podcasts and found it a great way to keep up with familiar tech industry luminaries. I've yet to apply it to business to any degree (maybe in time), but I've found it a cool way to keep up with the day-to-day thought processes of a number of really fascinating people (such as Lynn Terry). Sometimes it's a bit like a soap opera, but one where the stars interact with you now and then, which is quite fun. Everyone can basically form their own small town-like community. I work at home, so Twitter's my office water cooler. The only drawback is need to discipline oneself not to spend too long reading messages and checking out links.

One suggestion: There are 2 approaches to following others on Twitter. Some simply follow everyone who they run across or who follows them with the goal of self-promotion, since there's no way you'll actually keep up with hundreds of people on Twitter (Twitter now cuts you off at 2000, by the way). The other is to limit those you follow to a manageable number and actually benefit from/keep in contact with them. I think the latter works best. I never click to follow people who seem to be just Twitter spamming.

Twitter has made my fundraiser this year a huge success.

The majority of product contributors and donors have come directly from contacts made on Twitter in a matter of weeks.

Just get started and learn as you go! There are many top notch resources, especially Lynn's blog posts.

To read a whole conversation, bring up "Twitter Search" (formerly Summize) at . Type in 1 conversationalist's user name and you'll see all tweets to and from them.

Twitter works great for getting blog readers as well. I also post every time I have a new blog post. You can set it up to do it automatically.

The approach and exact methods used in a campaign vary drastically based on your business size, vertical and whether B2B or B2C. However, two aspects remaining constant across any campaign are the goals of garnering relevant inbound hyperlinks to your target site as well as driving new and increased impressions on a brand.
