Learning HTML+CSS

Postby nic.lk » Wed Jul 16, 2008 7:45 am

I want to learn HTML+CSS. I was just wondering if i spend at least 3 hours a day studying it how quickly will i be able to write it fluently?

Also, when people design websites do they learn ALL of the code or do they have a blank template of the code then add all the vital information?

Thanks

How quickly can you be fluent in HTML and CSS? That all depends on how quickly you would learn anything, really. I think the best way to learn is to practice, and just look things up as you need it. http://www.w3schools.com/ is a great online reference. O'Reilly puts out good books, too. I find it really hard to just read something and get it. Hands-on approach is best, imho.

To really learn HTML, spend some time at w3schools.com reading and doing the tutorials. The best way to learn is to do. Fortunately all you need for HTML and CSS is a text editor (Notepadd++ is really useful for this) and a web browser. There is no server requirement to view rendered HTML and CSS, so you already have the basic tools you need.

To work like the pros, consider something like Dreamweaver, which will do the majority of the mundane coding for you.

i think if you spend 3 hours a day studying and practicing, you could be fairly fluent in about a month. the best learning comes from actually doing it, not just reading lessons.

Agreed - depends on how quickly you learn in general; but typically, for most, the best way to do learn is just to jump in and DO. Get the basics down, then.....

I highly recommend , they have beautiful designs where you can download not only the html, but the CSS stylesheets with the sole purpose for you to LEARN (not copy) how they created these designs. Content should always be separate from design, and this site shows you how much that is possible with CSS. ;)
