The Migration Policy Institute (MPI) seeks part-time, temporary legislative data assistants to compile, analyze, and catalog state legislation affecting immigrants.

MPI is an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit think tank in Washington, DC dedicated to analysis of the movement of people worldwide. Legislative data assistants will work for the National Center on Immigrant Integration Policy within MPI and may work, in part, off-site. Therefore, all applicants must have access to a computer and the Internet. Applicants must be able to commute to MPI’s offices at least once per week.

Requirements:
Successful candidates must possess strong research skills, knowledge of the legislative process, and an ability to work independently and on deadline. Applicants must also be detail oriented with excellent data entry and organizational skills. Individuals with legal training (e.g. law students) or experience using legal search engines such as Westlaw and LexisNexis are preferred.

Expected start date is late May/ early June 2009 and legislative data assistants will be paid $15 per hour.
