The Peel P50 was released in 1962 and 1965 by the British Peel Manufacturing Company. It was released in an ill fated micro car class and cost only $400 US at the time. Currently the smallest car available for the North American market is the Smart Car by Mercedes-Benz.
The Peel P50 was officially entered into the Guinness Book of World Records for being the smallest production car ever.

A friend at school has a smart car, she loves it in every respect except that they mandate the use of one brand of gasoline or something weird like that in the warranty. For me as a consumer I do not want to be charged an arm and a leg, liver and kidney to boot for a vehicle only to be told I have to use only one brand of gasoline. If I remember correctly it is something like shell Gas, which typically here runs higher than most per gallon price.
