Broad or Niche?

Is it better to go for a broad theme or Niche theme these days??

Example : Camera phones ( I know there zillions of blogs on camera phones)

If I set up a blog on camera phones, my blog may appeal to those interested in camera phones, but I probably will never rank high for the term "camera phones" in the search engines cos of all the competition.

So would i be better to set up a blog on Samsung Camera phones, which would have far less appeal, but I might rank higher for that search term and therefore draw traffic.

The only other things I'd add is whether or not you have enough content within that micro-niche to sustain your content in the long run.

If you only have a bit of content that may last, at best, a few months - it may be time to start looking into the broad niche and breaking it down into categories like Lynn said.
