How to make money with a non business website

Postby sunflowerlady » Fri Aug 03, 2007 10:21 pm

Hello!

I have an idea for a Christmas themed website targeted at parents. My idea is to make money off of Google Adsense and Affiliates or ads. Are there other ways I could make money that I am not aware of?

What should someone starting a website be thinking of? I welcome any ideas or thoughts, I am a complete newbie -- anything you mention will be valuable and appreciated.

You can start by researching what is already out there and see if you don't spot an area that is underserved :)

Then Adsense is a nice place to start but I'm sure you'll be able to find several complimentary affiliate programs.

I'd look for programs that offer:

Christmas decor
Christmas gifts
Personalized items
etc :)

I agree with Kelly. It depends on the main objective of your website of course, or what you are offering to your target market with this site. If there are not affiliate offers directly related to the content/offer at your site, this is a prime opportunity to create a product!

Hello Ladies :D

Kelly - thank you for the suggestion, my website idea is something that does not appear to be on the web. So either I've got a good idea or it is something that is a real turkey! lol :) But I love Christmas so I think it is something fun to start with as a first website. Thanks for the suggestion on affiliates, I'll see what is out there. I was thinking of doing Amazon and suggesting children's books about Christmas as one idea.

Oh Kelly -- I am enjoying your Hot Seminar Series very much! You sure have put together a real terrific line-up of interesting, successful internet ladies for us to have the opportunity to hear speak and ask questions. Your Hot Seminar Series has helped to give me the confidence to go ahead with this website idea, so I'm very grateful to you -- it was the perfect "jumpstart" so a big thank you to you! :D

Lynn - thank you for the suggestion of making a product, that is a great idea! I'll put on my thinking cap and see if something comes to mind. I'm not sure of anything right now but I'll just keep thinking about it -- and maybe something will pop up that is just right. :D

Thank you for your thoughts!

You are so welcome Abby! (Sorry it took me so long to read your comment) I've had such a great time with the Hot Seminar Series this year and it's almost over. It's a bittersweet thing... I'm both relieved to have it over and sad to see it go.

I look forward to seeing what you do with your site :)
