If you do create a free ebook or something like that, consider loading it with a few affiliate links that are related to the ebook - that way you can make more money from the stuff you give away!

The best approach to to profit from the free stuff is to create an e-book or report on a topic that every online marketer is interested in, start marketing the free e-book and when they download it fill it with your own affiliate links. The best way to build up your list would be to create a splash page with an opt- in request to receive the desired information. Now you have an e-mail list with people who are getting you commissions from your e-book affiliate links. It's twice the return on one simple effort. Go for it

Article directories are a great source for article such as Ezinearticles.com or Isnare.com These sites are huge so they'll have tons or articles in their database.
There is a new site that launch a few days ago called Instant Squeeze Page Generator and you can sign up for free. Inside you'll have access to alot of e-books that you can giveaway and the program allows you to enter your autoresponder form so you can start building your list.
It's pretty cool actually but the upgrade cost around $100 bucks. I sent a support ticket to ask them if you can add your own e-book but haven't received any reply yet.
Good luck.
