How do domain names effect SEO?

Hello everyone,

I am working on a new project and am looking for domain names. The main way that I want to drive traffic to the site is through search engines.

I have done all the keyword research with wordtracker (full version). I am able to get a domain with the highest ranking search phrase, both with and without dashes. But it will end up being over 20 characters long.

So how much would it effect search engine ranking to have the domain with the exact search phrase?

What if I had a URL www.xyz.com/the-exact-search-phrase.htm would that rank as high in the search engines?

Second question, the search phrase has a commonly misspelled word. How do I take advantage of this?
