Working in Competitive Niches: The Good,
The Bad... and The MONEY

You are in one of two positions: You are either researching ways to start your first online business, or you are looking for new business ventures to add to your collection. Either way, there is one thing you need:

A Money-Making Niche!

A lot of people will research markets from the angle of trying to find the least competitive niches. Low competition (generally) means it is easier to get good search engine rankings, you have more opportunity to create unique content and unique products (that havent already been done to death), and you have fewer competitors to worry about.

That's not necessarily bad thinking. In fact, there is a whole method developed to teach those very strategies. I believe it's called the Underachiever method.

Personally, I'm more of an Over-Achiever :-)

There are serious benefits to working in competitive markets. For starters, you KNOW that they must be profitable niches, otherwise they wouldnt be so crowded and active - right? Right.

There are other reasons you might want to consider competitive niches. For example:

- Higher Adsense Payout
- More Affiliate Programs
- More JV Opportunities
- More Affiliates To Recruit
- More Websites To Republish Your Articles

I could go on and on, but I think you get the point.

It boils down to this: If there is money flowing freely in a particular market... you might want to consider the ways that you can position yourself to get some of it flowing YOUR way.

Brainstorming usually starts out with ideas like: how can I offer something unique in this busy market? How can I make my website or my product stand apart from the rest? Etc.

It pays to stand back a bit and really analyze the niche you are considering. Is it chock full of active super-affiliates? If so, then you dont want to compete with them directly by becoming an affiliate in that market. Instead, create a product and let those seasoned affiliates drive traffic and leads to your new website!

Not only should you be considering the ways that you can offer something unique, and "stand out in the crowd" within a competitive niche... but you should also be looking at ALL of the ways that you can put the power of those competitors to WORK FOR YOU.

The downside to tons of competition online is that it is more difficult to achieve top search engine rankings for popular keyword phrases, or to get good placement for Pay-Per-Click ads.

But if you let your competitors do all the hard work, and all of the marketing... you can simply sit back and figure out ways to let them funnel traffic and sales your way ;)

Keyword and Niche brainstorming is something that I personally enjoy. I have blogs and websites in a variety of niches, and have earned great money with seasonal "Hot Markets" over the years as well. You may even remember the exclusive audio I did on Hot Markets a couple of years ago (that recording is available free to Elite Members, by the way).
